The NSW Public Sector ITAB is developing two guides for public sector agencies, careers advisors and students which will identify school based traineeship and apprenticeship qualifications that are ideal for entry into public sector employment.
One guide will be targeted to State and Commonwealth agency employment, the other to local government.
The resources are designed to:
- Increase awareness of the wide range of school based traineeship/apprenticeship qualifications that are relevant to government job functions
- Provide guidance to employers on the potential tasks that could be given to school based trainees and apprentices undertaking these qualifications
- Illustrate some of the post-school jobs and career options available in government upon completion of Year 12
The project will commence in February 2012 and will be completed in June 2012.
These school-based traineeship guides are being funded by the NSW Department of Education and Training following the success of a previous project which contributed to the growth of school-based traineeships in local government. See the ITAB’s project Entry Level Pathways, for more details.
